Smasher the Crasher Car

12 x 5

In the summer after 7 th grade, a friend showed us a new game. The idea was to take a toy truck or car and tie a wire to one side of the car so that you could spin it around in a circle. The car had to meet certain dimensions. To play the game, two kids would spin their cars in a counter-clockwise circle . . . and get closer and closer until the two vehicles collided. The one with the least damage was the winner. My friend Mike and I watched several contests. Mike (who got a degree in Physics from M.I.T.) designed our new car. I build it and painted it and ran it in the contests. We named it “ Smasher ” and it never lost . After destroying several of our friend’s toy cars & trucks, no one would compete against us anymore. I felt sorry for the kids who cried and lost their toys. We retired Smasher and I still have it.
